Loved it. Gorgeous writing, lovely story, and characters motivated by a love for storytelling. The final pages are brilliantly insightful and brought the whole story home. Definitely recommended.
Loved it. Charming, whimsical, genuine. Loved the dark edge, too. Kept me reading and I wanted more!
This one just wasn't for me. I love contemporary, but the beginning was too slow for me and the writing didn't have the compelling edge that ELEANOR AND PARK did. I know others loved it, though, so give it a try!
Stunning. Real, gritty, gorgeous. Subtle and thorough world-building. One of my top-recommended books.
Brilliant storytelling and gorgeous prose. This is one I have been constantly recommending for over a year now. I still can't get this book out of my head and just ordered a copy to keep, so I'll be re-reading it ASAP.
A fun, charming read. It's younger YA, and filled with the bigger-than-her-age voice that makes Pride taking up the parenting role believable. The pacing was a bit slow, and I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected, but probably only because I prefer upper YA, and I've read a lot of teens-acting-as-parents lately. It's a thoroughly charming story.
Gorgeous. Small issue with lack of follow-through in the ending, but I love, love, loved this story. Compelling, inspiring, musical.
I had the pleasure of reading this as the author worked on it, and I have to say it's one of the standout titles of 2013 for me. Hensel is a brilliant writer; her prose is tight, voicey, and captivating. The story is unusual, surprising, and unforgettable. I've read it half a dozen times, and each time Hensel surprised me with her ability to show convincing human emotion and create compelling moments that gripped me by the heart.
Gorgeous writing, magnetically compelling relationship, lovely story of self-discovery. The historical and musical elements make this incredibly rich storytelling.
