Kate Brauning

YA author. HOW WE FALL coming Nov. 11, 2014 from Merit Press, F+W Media. Book evangelist. Optimist, enthusiast, fangirl. Represented by Carlie Webber

Foreplay

Foreplay - Sophie Jordan Engaging relationship, solid writing, a fun romance to watch happen.

Pushing the Limits

Pushing the Limits - Katie McGarry Engaging characters and a story with emotional depth. Enjoyed this one!

Everything Leads to You

Everything Leads to You - Nina LaCour Loved it. Gorgeous writing, lovely story, and characters motivated by a love for storytelling. The final pages are brilliantly insightful and brought the whole story home. Definitely recommended.

The Art of Wishing

The Art of Wishing - Lindsay Ribar Loved it. Charming, whimsical, genuine. Loved the dark edge, too. Kept me reading and I wanted more!

Unteachable

Unteachable - Leah Raeder Gorgeous prose and what a voice. Loved it.

How to Reprimand Your Rock Star

How to Reprimand Your Rock Star - Mina Vaughn Fun, sassy, kinky! This one's a quick, entertaining read.

Fangirl

Fangirl - Rainbow Rowell This one just wasn't for me. I love contemporary, but the beginning was too slow for me and the writing didn't have the compelling edge that ELEANOR AND PARK did. I know others loved it, though, so give it a try!

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown - Holly Black Stunning. Real, gritty, gorgeous. Subtle and thorough world-building. One of my top-recommended books.

What Alice Forgot

What Alice Forgot - Liane Moriarty Brilliant storytelling and gorgeous prose. This is one I have been constantly recommending for over a year now. I still can't get this book out of my head and just ordered a copy to keep, so I'll be re-reading it ASAP.

Keeping Safe the Stars

Keeping Safe the Stars - Sheila O'Connor A fun, charming read. It's younger YA, and filled with the bigger-than-her-age voice that makes Pride taking up the parenting role believable. The pacing was a bit slow, and I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected, but probably only because I prefer upper YA, and I've read a lot of teens-acting-as-parents lately. It's a thoroughly charming story.

This Song Will Save Your Life

This Song Will Save Your Life - Leila Sales Gorgeous. Small issue with lack of follow-through in the ending, but I love, love, loved this story. Compelling, inspiring, musical.

Unstoppable

Unstoppable - Bethany Hensel I had the pleasure of reading this as the author worked on it, and I have to say it's one of the standout titles of 2013 for me. Hensel is a brilliant writer; her prose is tight, voicey, and captivating. The story is unusual, surprising, and unforgettable. I've read it half a dozen times, and each time Hensel surprised me with her ability to show convincing human emotion and create compelling moments that gripped me by the heart.

Intensely romantic, fast-paced, suspenseful-- this book is a must read!

Dark Places

Dark Places - Gillian Flynn Gritty, grim, redemptive.

I loved the passages from the brother's POV. Not YA, but so fascinating.

Revolution

Revolution - Jennifer Donnelly Gorgeous writing, magnetically compelling relationship, lovely story of self-discovery. The historical and musical elements make this incredibly rich storytelling.

It's Kind of a Funny Story

It's Kind of a Funny Story - Ned Vizzini Loved this. Funny, smart, hopeful. I especially loved the brilliantly sketched friendships.

If You Find Me

If You Find Me - Emily Murdoch Brilliantly done. Gripping, atmospheric. An impacting story of home and family.
